IA Team

We are hoping you can make your way to the PACE Center over the Labor Day weekend to join us for some smokin' good barbecue, cold beer and a full line-up of entertainment.

As one of the sponsors of the annual event hosted by the Cherry Creek Valley Rotary Club of Parker, we know you’ll have a great time. It’s the perfect way to get the family together and celebrate the end of summer.

The fun kicks off with happy hour, beginning at 4 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 4, and keeps going through the judging of the BBQ competitors Sunday afternoon.

There will be plenty of awesome competitors to watch, including:

  • Two-time champion, Boyd Abts & Tim Grant of Truebud BBQ, who will be seeking a three-peat as Grand Champion’
  • Johnny Trigg, who is considered the godfather of BBQ and is a two-time winner of the Jack Daniels’ World Championship BBQ Invitational;
  • Travis Clark of Clark Crew BBQ, who currently is #1 in the nation;
  • America Dream Team and Big Poppa Smokers, currently #3 and #4 in the country, respectively;
  • The Colorado-based Backdraft BBQ, 28th in the country;
  • Burning Bob’s Butts and Bones, a team that has won the Rocky Mountain BBQ Team of the Year four times.

 But if cold beer and entertainment are more of what you’re looking for, there will be plenty of options.

First, there’ll be the Third Annual Cow Pie Bingo Contest, which will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday and is sponsored by Insurance Advisors. A 50 X 40 grid will be painted on the ground surrounded by a fence. A cow will be led onto the grid to do it's "business," and the owner of the square with the majority of the “cow pie” will win half the amount raised in sold tickets, up to $10,000.

Contact any of us – Kyle, Kevin or Josh – if you’d like to make a donation of $10 per ticket.

 And then there’s this awesome lineup of entertainment:

5 p.m. to 6 p.m. - The Blush Band, a Castle Rock group and winner of the Jam Out For Hunger Battle of the Bands.

7 p.m. to 10 p.m. - Bluzinators - Doug Root and his full band will perform a unique blend of swing and rhythm and blues in front of the home town crowd.

Noon to 3 p.m. - Blinker Fluid, a local favorite led by Bill Greer, is making a return performance.

4 p.m. to 7 p.m. - Leroy Miller, a guitarist with blues and rock influences who has collaborated with the likes of John Mayer and Smash Mouth. His music has been featured on TV shows, such as Arrested Development and Scrubs, and movies  that include “10 Things I Hate About You.”

8 p.m. to 10 p.m. - Rick Lewis Project, featuring DJ Rick Lewis of 103.5 The Fox, who launched his namesake band with a stable of talented musicians to bring the same collection of rock and blues songs fans of his previous band, Groove Hawgs, would enjoy.

11 a.m.  to 1 p.m. - Bad Candy, an acoustic trio that has made a name for themselves throughout the South Denver Metro area.

2 p.m. to 5 p.m. - Blackjack Canyon, featuring Bob McCormick and his crew, who are back again to provide classical rock and pop songs that will close out the entertainment portion of the BBQ.

5 p.m. - The BBQ competition awards ceremony will begin.

And the best part of all:  It’s all for a good cause. Funds raised will support Rotary causes locally and worldwide, including:

  • Dictionaries to every third grader at seven local elementary schools;
  • A grant matched with Rotary District 5450 funds to Project Sanctuary, a local charity that provides free therapeutic mountain retreats to military families;
  • Trick or Treat on Mainstreet for more than 6,000 local kids in a safe, controlled environment;
  • Matching grants to Parker Task Force and Douglas/Elbert Task Force;
  • Audio visual equipment and volunteer support to Douglas County Support Center; and
  • Homes for Our Troops and Kids for Our Troops to help build homes for our disabled veterans.

 The event is free, but tickets must be purchased for food and beverages. For more information, please visit www.smokinbrewbbq.com.

We hope to see you there!
